This collection is dedicated to Bill Coleman. Although we never worked together, I consider Bill a mentor. I first saw Bill’s work in State College, Pennsylvania while a student at Penn State back in 1978. Bill ran a successful portrait studio in town and also did photography of local Penn State landmarks. It wasn’t until later though that his work really captured my attention and imagination and inspired my own photographic efforts. In his late forties Bill discovered a nearby Amish settlement, fell in love with their simple lifestyle and spent the next 35 years capturing spellbinding images of Amish life in a small remote valley. I too have always had a fascination with Amish life and Bill inspired me to perhaps carry on his legacy in some small way. Bill passed away in 2014 at the age of 88.
